In an age of characterless Chinese mics hyped by glossy ads, 'sponsored' giveaway endorsements and increasingly ludicrous price tickets, Audio Technica continue to offer solid, professional mics to the industry with a minimum of fuss.
I've been reexamining this extremely cost effective range of Japanese made microphones, and have been extremely impressed by what I've found. A-T have not stood still since I last visited, and I've discovered some true gems amongst recent additions to the range. Sure, the company is known for the superb 40 series mics which offer high end performance at a modest price, but new offerings including the 450 side address mic (great for acoustics and snares) and SE2500 dual technology kick drum mic (condenser and dynamic within a single housing) prove that Audio Technica remains at the forefront of microphone development.
Don't be a snob. Try one, close your eyes and pretend you're using a Neumann. Then check the price. Trust your ears, not the hype.
