There is no denying that ADAM monitors are currently flavour of the month. And sure, so far as booming bottom end and sweet, sweet highs are concerned, ADAM's are hard to beat. In particular, the ribbon tweater and mid range offer a degree of efficiency and high end sweetness that is hard to beat.

However, I harbor doubts. I'm familiar with ribbon tweaters (from hifi manufacturers such as Voigt and others) and always used to love working with Genelec S30's, which utilized ribbon tweaters right back when, when ADAM were merely a twinkle in Eve's mischievous eye. The problem I have with ribbon tweaters is that they are too flattering and as a result mixed I and friends did on S30's sounded dull, as we tended to roll off too much top end to compensate for the sparkiung tweater. Therein lies my reservations about ADAMs. Yes, they sound great, but I worry that they sound TOO great. When compared to my references of ATC monitors and APS' (which deliver flat mixes time after time) the ADAMs are easy to listen to, with pumping lows and sparkling highs. I'd love a pair in my living room, but would have to think very, very carefully before trusting them in my studio.

But hey - what theheck? Who am I? Look at ADAM's user list. These guys should know. I'm just a woolly old fuddy-duddy who still thinks Hip Hop is just another name for the triple jump.

So go for it, and if ADAM's your preferred flavour, come and hear them at work beside the competition. If you want `em, we'll cut a deal. And remember - you, the customer, are ALWAYS right.
